ALPHA IVF Centre Sets New Record: Highest number of consecutive embryos that survived the freeze-thaw process

Highest number of consecutive embryos that survived the freeze-thaw process 10,290 Embryos Achieve 100.00% Post-Thaw Survival Rate.

Saturday, 10 August 2024. Petaling Jaya, Malaysia — Alpha IVF & Women’s Specialists (Alpha IVF), a leading fertility centre, today announced that it has achieved an unparalleled 100.00% survival rate for 10,290 consecutive embryos/blastocysts since implementing its vitrification (freezing) technology in 2013. This unprecedented accomplishment has been recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records as the Most Consecutive Embryos to Survive Freeze-Thaw, potentially a world-breaking record.

Studies indicate that freezing embryos and subsequently transferring them into the womb in an unstimulated cycle (called Frozen Embryo Transfer) improves implantation and pregnancy rates compared to transferring them after egg pickup. This lower rate in fresh transfer is due to the less receptive endometrium caused by high hormone doses in IVF cycles. By waiting for the uterus to return to its normal state before transferring thawed embryos, Alpha IVF leverages on this benefit. Alpha IVF’s efficient freeze-thaw technology ensures a perfect survival rate, ensuring that every embryo or blastocyst frozen will survive and be available for transfer.

This achievement boosts Malaysia’s reputation in reproductive medicine. The country is increasingly attracting international patients from neighbouring countries, including Indonesia, China, Singapore and Australia. Last year, Malaysia earned about RM 1.7 billion from medical tourism, with fertility treatments being a key contributor, as per the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) 2023 Industry Report.

“Alpha IVF’s success is particularly significant for patients undergoing IVF. It means more reliable fertility preservation, including for cancer patients wanting to safeguard their future family options and individuals who want to delay parenthood,” said Dr. Leong Wai Yew, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Alpha IVF Kuala Lumpur.

Ms Adelle Lim, Alpha IVF’s Group Scientific Director stated: “Our world-leading implantation rates exceeding 60% and pregnancy rates exceeding 80% are made possible by this unparalleled 100.00% embryo survival. These outcomes are truly remarkable, and we’re proud to provide our patients with the very best chances of conceiving through the latest advancements in fertility care.”

Alpha IVF’s perfect record with 10,290 consecutive embryos and blastocysts not only highlights their technical excellence but also cements Malaysia’s position as a top destination for high-quality, accessible fertility treatments.

Y.B. Tuan Muhammad Izuan Bin Ahmad Kasim, the ADUN (Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri) of Kota Damansara, who attended as a VIP during the event, stated: “Today, we celebrate a remarkable milestone— 10,290 consecutive embryos with 100.00% post-thaw survival—demonstrating Alpha IVF’s unwavering commitment in excellent and innovation in fertility treatments. Also, this achievement highlights the profound societal impact of Alpha IVF’s work in helping countless couples realise their dreams of parenthood.”

The ADUN also honoured the dedicated embryologists, often the unsung heroes working behind the scenes, by presenting a special embryologist cap to each of them. Patients who have had successful treatments also came to share their gratitude and positive experiences, underscoring the significance of this milestone in their journeys to parenthood.
